Part drama, part fantasy and part parable, The Well House is a multi-layered tale that takes you on an amazing journey, from the mountains above Boulder Colorado to the depths of the dark zone.

Review:
I love a good horror and this one hit the spot! There is a sense of dread from the first chapter that just builds as the books evolves. I knew from the beginning it would be a good vs. evil play but it was well built throughout the book. There were some times when I felt Ben was rather naive, but it played into the story. If you are looking for a horror story without a lot of gore but still want to be kept on the edge of suspense I'd pick this book up!

Masters of the Broken Watches
Synopsis:
When you’re in a near-death experience, people say time slows down. What if time does actually slow down? Or when people experience being at the right place at the right time. What if one could predict with certainty that right time and place?

Sebastian Miles, an adventure loving, risk-taking marine biologist accidentally discovers a new species that has the power to change the way we humans experience time. While performing research, he and his team are shocked by a logic-defying phenomenon–where during one experiment the world outside their lab jumps ahead by twenty-two hours.

News of this discovery soon reaches the heads of powerful governments and inadvertently triggers a global hunt to capture and control Sebastian and his team, their research and the species.

These leaders know that this one discovery would pivot the power equation and the group that control this species will have access to the greatest resource mankind has ever seen – Time. Sebastian and his team attempt to stay one step ahead of their pursuers, but are they willing to risk their lives—in order to share their discovery with all mankind?

Review:
This book started one way and ended in a way I never saw coming. I wasn't sure what to expect and that is always a high point for me in reading! I loved the fact we had multiple viewpoints and characters came from all aspects of life. I couldn't put this book down because I did not know what or who the next page might bring. As any good science fiction it made me think about the real world and what is really out there in the deep blue seas! I recommend if you like your sci fi with a little of scare as well as a lot of speculation about the world around us! I received an e-copy from Netgalley for my honest opinion.

Synopsis:
Twelve-year-old Lizbeth always has a plan, and those plans have usually worked--until now. No matter what she tries, she can't get rid of her dad's new girlfriend, Claire. And when she and her mom move, Lizbeth has to join a sixth-grade class already in progress, where her teacher makes her wear a name tag and she's seated with three notorious weirdos.

Review:

This was a book about learning about yourself, even when you think you know yourself well. It is a realistic fiction middle grade read that will have you trying to help Lizbeth and her new situation in life. There are some great hidden gems of quotes throughout this book that I thoroughly appreciated.

Being a person who doesn't always get the laughs that I think I should, I totally got Lizbeth and wanted her to learn about friendship and family and differences and all the things!

Finding your way in a group, be it a family or friends is always hard for anyone, but especially those in the 6th grade. Highly recommend this book for all middle graders and anyone else who wants a feel good story!

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy!

Review:
This is the third book in a series that has me laughing and fanning myself at the same time.  There are some definite hot times and some hilarious times and some family times. I love that Uncle Bob is there for her and they all work together to solve those crimes.  Reyes is...well...a bad boy in a bad boy's body that is really probably a good guy.  You need to read this series to find out more!

Author: Delores Fossen

Publisher: Harequin
Rating: 4 stars

Synopsis:
Rodeo rider Nico Laramie may have a not-so-squeaky-clean reputation with the women of Coldwater, but there are rules he doesn't break. No bullies. No married women. And definitely not his best friend, Eden Joplin. So what exactly is Nico thinking, kissing Eden in front of her jerk ex-husband? With the proverbial bull out of the pen, Nico is about to get gored--hard.

Eden has secretly been writing a sex-advice blog called "Naughty Cowgirl," but her divorce killed all her sexy inspiration. Then, when her gorgeous best friend kisses her in a way that makes her toes curl, suddenly Eden's mojo is back. And the heat isn't going away. Now something deep and long-denied is happening between them. Something that could destroy their friendship...or finally prove that this time it's the real deal.

Review:
SWEET SUMMER SUNSET, the third in the Coldwater Texas series is the story of Nico and his best friend Eden. The fun thing about these books is they can by read as stand alones and you aren't left in the dark about previous books. That being said, I can't wait to read more about this family!
This book has a little bit of everything from family drama to mind blowing sex and not sex scenes (a lot of frustration shall we say) to a mystery that kept me invested in this book. The various story lines were followed extremely well and never let me not understand what was going on in the book although at times there was a lot going on! I really enjoyed this book and another great addition to my friends to lovers collection (one of MY favorite tropes).

Review:
There's something magical about a small town and especially a small at Christmas time.  This debut book is no exception.  It's a definite feel good cozy with lots of mystery and mayhem and perhaps even a little romance.  I love a good cozy and I think this series is going to have a lot to offer in the little town of Heart's Harbor, Maine  The mystery was good,  the characters were written in such a way that we know a little about them, yet there is so much more to be discovered in future books.  If you are looking for a good Christmas who dun it book, pick this up!

Title: Worth the Risk
Author: Zara Cox
Publisher: Harlequin Dare
Available: Nov 1st
Rating: 4 stars (goodreads)
Spice:  HOT
Source:  Netgalley
Synopsis:
With a multibillion-dollar deal on the line, billionaire playboy Gideon Mortimer can’t afford another tabloid scandal. He’s committed to a chastity contract, but being on the same yacht as Leonie Branson—temptation personified—is pure, unadulterated torture. Relinquishing control of their thrilling sexual chemistry to tenacious Leonie feels tantalizingly worth the risk—to his reputation and his well-protected heart.
Review:
Who doesn't want to be rich and have it all?  But is it worth the risk?  A hot story with steaming hot sexual content with a big boat and lots of money.  Not being able to touch and find their way into each others....well...each other... threw a fun aspect in the story.  The big story is finding your way to forgiveness from a difficult past and putting it where it belongs so one can focus on the future.  Always a good trope for me!  Great story and great writing made this book fly by and I do suggest it if you are looking for a little steam this time of year!

Rating: 3.5

Synopsis:
A modern day Fatal Attraction meets The Girl on the Train, by New York Times and USA Today bestselling new adult author Courtney Cole, now writing dark psychological suspense under the name Courtney Tate Evans.

From the outside, Dr. Corinne Cabot is living the American dream: a successful ER physician, she is married to a hardworking and handsome psychologist. Together they own a charming house in the Chicago suburbs. But Cabot has a dark personal past and her memory has holes she tries to fill in. Her sleep is ravaged by recurring nightmares of that night when, as a teenager, she found her father standing next to the bodies of two people he had shot dead. It is what she can't remember about that night that utterly haunts her. Her father is still alive in jail for that terrible crime. At times now, despite her success, she fears she is truly unable to determine what is real and what is not. Then she starts to suspect that something is amiss with her husband and realizes that nothing--and no one--in her life is as it appears.

Review:
This was page turning, and had some dark and deep scenes. It kept me in the book which so many books don't seem to do. I did read this in one day so I think that says something! The story has many triggers...so if you have issues I'd probably not pick this up.
The aha moment wasn't as over the top as I would have expected. I wish there could have been more of the before story told...I'm feeling like I'm missing a part of the story.
Above all...a darn good dark thriller!

Review:

Bad biker boys and bankers, can anything be as hot? This was book 2 in this series, but for reading it as a standalone you wouldn't miss much. The scenes were steamy, the story was all right. I really enjoyed this story and it kept me occupied nicely on a plane trip through some rough weather! If you are looking for steam and heat and well...SEX, take a look at this book or series. The only problem I had with the book was the ending. The ending seemed a bit forced as if we just wanted to get to a HEA, I would have loved to see a bit more of the 12 days of Christmas....so many ideas that could have happened! But for this new line for Harlequin, I don't think you'd be too disappointed in the delivery of some hot steaming magic!

Cute cowboy love story!  Very short and feelgood.  While it is part of a series, I didn't realize it when I requested this book but I didn't feel like I needed the other books to know what was going on.  I will go back and read, because Ms. Yates has a way of making the words fly.

Title: A Week to be Wild
Author: JC Harroway
Genre: Erotic Romance
Available:  Immediately
Source:  Netgalley
Publisher:  Harlequin
Format:  E-book
Rating:  3 stars

Synopsis:
Libby Noble is done with men who live on the edge, but sexy British billionaire Alex coaxes her out of her comfort zone—professionally and very personally! She’ll agree to play his game…but only by her rules!

Review:Well, hot and wild in a week, this book did deliver that. It was short but filled with lots of steam if that is what you are looking for. This is a new print for the Harlequin line and will be sure to find a suitable market ready to devour all the books in the line. As of now, it seems that all books are only in e-book format. I did find the insta-love a little too far fetched, but we have all seen that guy that sets our heart a thumping! There is a lot to be said for an author that can make 'safe' sex erotic! Definitely looking for more books by JC!

DEAD COLD

What happens when one California
community has a disturbing spike in homicides? It catapults cops into a deadly
game of murder. Frozen human body parts hideously displayed at the crime scenes
offers a horrifying interpretation that only a sadistic serial killer could
design—and execute.

On the hunt for a complex serial killer, vigilante detective Emily Stone must
face her most daring case yet. Stone’s proven top-notch profiling skills and
forensic expertise may not be enough this time.

Young and ambitious, Detective Danny Starr, catches the homicide cases and
discovers that it will test everything he knows about police work and the
criminal mind. Can he handle these escalating cases or will the police
department have to call in reinforcements—the FBI.

Emily Stone’s covert team pushes with extreme urgency to unravel the grisly
clues, while keeping their identities hidden from the police. With one
last-ditch effort, Stone dangles someone she loves as bait to draw out the
killer. She then forces the killer out of their comfort zone with her partner
Rick Lopez, and with help from a longtime friend Jordan Smith. A revelation of
the serial killer’s identity leaves the team with volatile emotions that could
destroy them.

ESCAPE WAS IMPOSSIBLE. TEARS STREAMED down her
face as she sat in the darkness and waited for the man to return. There was no
other choice—but to wait.
She hadn’t eaten anything in three days and had only a
limited amount of water—her strength continued to fade with every hour. With
her wrists and ankles secured with duct tape, her skin stung with pain every
time she struggled to move. At least the man had peeled the tape from her eyes
and mouth so that she could see something besides pitch-blackness.
Even if she could escape, the only way to safety was jumping
into the frigid water, but she could not swim and would drown before ever
reaching the shore.
The only thing thirteen-year-old Kayla Swanson thought about
was home. Fond memories flashed through her mind of her parents, her little
brother, and her dog Charlie. She was never going to see them again. Their
smiling faces were forever etched in Kayla’s mind, and she constantly held them
close to her heart.
The boat rocked, and seemed to sway more violently as the
tide flooded in and out of the harbor. Kayla could hear a consistent clanking
noise above her as the boat rolled back and forth. The sound had a hypnotic
quality, and kept her mind on something else besides when the man would return
and what he would do next.
Her lips were dry and cracked as she bordered on dehydration.
Even her tears dried on her cheeks, leaving her skin stiff and drawn. Her body
began to shake, not only from fear, but also because of the extreme exhaustion
and the constant dampness all around her.
The boat rocked more, but this time it shifted from the
opposite sides. Kayla heard soft footsteps above, which she knew wasn’t her
captor’s heavy walk. She strained her eyes in the darkness and thought she saw
a thin shadow stealthily move along the upper deck.
Was it a ghost?
Kayla remembered a television series where a team of people
hunted ghosts and they had said that ghosts could
occupy any type of space, house, property, and even a boat.
She blinked her eyes several times and hoped that she could
catch a glimpse of the ghost again. With every ounce of declining strength,
Kayla scooted her body closer to the narrow stairs leading to the upper deck.
Painfully craning her neck, she strained to see something up
in the darkness.
The dark shadowed areas played tricks on her eyes—it was
there, then it wasn’t.
She waited for several minutes.
Nothing appeared.
The only sounds she heard were the usual boat noises she had
grown accustomed to hearing. Whatever she thought she heard was gone now. It
was most likely her imagination trying to give her some hope and a few moments
break from her dire circumstances.
As she relaxed her shoulders and leaned back against the
wall, the reality of her world pressing down hard. Tears streamed down her
face. She tasted the saltiness that settled around her mouth. Her last moments
were approaching, and there was nothing she could do.

MY REVIEW

It's the perfect time of the year for thrillers, and this one helped bring in the season of thrills!
There are twists and turns, while not entirely unexpected it did add to the page turning ability of the book.  I would suggest starting with book one in this series because you may not get all the details of the history without the beginning. The date and time headings made for a nice timeline instead of chapter headings.  If you are in the mood for a little murder this Halloween season, It's a pretty fast read and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Pick this up!

Fix Your Diabetes

Title:
FIX YOUR DIET FIX YOUR DIABETES
Author: Tony Hampton, MD
Publisher: Windy City Publishers
Pages: 168
Genre: Self-Help

Want to fix your diabetes?  In this book, I share with
my diabetic and borderline diabetic readers that they have the power to reverse
or prevent diabetes simply by changing their diets.  It starts with how
you think.  By removing old beliefs to new ones that better serve you, the
path to recovery from diabetes can be that simple.  Once I provide the
rationale for changing old beliefs to more productive ones, I then share with
you ways to stay motivated as you journey to a new way of eating.  You are
then given a deeper understanding of why so many people have diabetes.
This knowledge will allow you to remove thoughts you may have had where
you blamed yourself for having diabetes.  You are then given tips on how
to maintain the motivation needed to make a successful transition to a diabetic
friendly diet.  Additional knowledge is given about the many complications
which could occur when this condition is not well controlled.  Empowered
with the understanding of why diabetes occurs and its many complications, you
will be given a case for changing how diabetes is treated.  This is done
by changing the focus of diabetes management away from the symptoms (elevated
glucose), which is how we currently manage this condition, to treating the
cause of the disease (insulin resistance).  You are then given the
rationale for increasing healthy fats in your diets while reducing starchy
carbohydrates and processed foods.  Once this is explained, examples of
foods that should be considered for smoothies, snacks, and dinner are given so
you will know how to choose foods which are best.   Finally, tips on how
to avoid being fooled by marketing labels and claims of so-called healthy foods
provide the framework by which great dietary choices can be made.  This
new approach to reversing diabetes with diet will reverse diabetes in nearly
anyone willing to make these simply lifestyle changes.

INSULIN RESISTANCE AND HOW TO REVERSE IT

Now that you understand that Type 2 diabetes is about
insulin resistance, it’s time to rethink how you are approaching your treatment
for this condition. Most doctors and their patients focus on reducing the blood
glucose values and if they’re successful they feel they’re controlling
diabetes. But I asked myself if we were fixing the core problem or simply
treating the symptoms. After reflecting on the question, I realized the core
problem may not be elevated blood glucose levels after all. High glucose values
are simply a symptom of diabetes. So where should the focus be?

The answer is insulin resistance. By focusing on this, you
could achieve much better results, since this is essential to fixing your
diabetes. Let’s use an analogy to help think about this concept in a different
way. If I see a patient who presents with a painful throat, red and swollen
tonsils, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, and a fever, I know I likely have a
patient who needs to be treated for strep throat. In order to solve his
problem, I will need to give him an antibiotic to fight the bacteria that is
causing his symptoms. If I gave this patient Tylenol, I would only be treating
his symptoms, and would likely end up with a patient who feels better but isn’t
really cured.

This is what we are doing with our diabetes treatment. This
is also likely the reason we consider this a progressively worsening disease.
By shifting your focus, you will find a path to the solution you’ve been
searching for. Why focus on insulin resistance? Because when insulin levels are
high due to resistance, lipolysis (fat breakdown) is inhibited, sensitive
arteries throughout the body are exposed to damaging higher levels of glucose,
muscle protein synthesis is reduced, and glycogen-filled cells are converted to

MY REVIEW

Having a family history of diabetes that goes back several generations, I found this book highly beneficial to read.  Even if you don't have diabetes it's still a great read to get to a manageable control of diet.  It's not a cure or even a diet, but a guide to help you in your choices and where to find more information.  I appreciated that this is written in simple language not the Dr. speak with words that normal people don't use or understand.  Learning to fix your diabetes with diet instead of drugs is always a learning curve, but Dr. Hampton helped make this journey a little more understandable.
Recommend even if you don't have diabetes, just learning better eating habits is always a good thing!
